Third-gen. 3.7 and 4.7 PowerTech, plus a 4.7 HO. The 42RLE and later automatics need the right PCM for shift quality. Dakota production ended after 2011. On the 2007 Dodge Dakota the PCM usually sits engine bay, passenger or driver inner fender depending on year — close to the overflow bottle on later trucks.
The PCM handles Magnum or PowerTech fuel and spark, idle air or electronic throttle, and the four-speed automatic’s shift points.
